Our Team

In a recent survey, we asked our clients to describe our firm.  We were pleased that the words most often used to describe HRnovations were:  flexible, responsible, accessible and knowledgeable.  We agree that this describes our people well.  Our culture is positive, our people are talented, and we practice what we preach.  We hire carefully and provide ongoing professional development for all team members.  Many of our team members have received specialized education and certifications in human resources, finance, law, benefits, payroll, and client services.

Leadership Team

Mike Komola, SPHR, President/Principal
Mike is responsible for strategic focus, vision and direction, enabling the team to achieve sustainable and profitable long-term growth.  Prior to becoming a principal in October 2007, Mike was HRnovations’ director of PEO operations since June 2006.

His prior work experience includes 16 years in the human resources profession as a practitioner. Prior to joining HRnovations, he was director of human resources at the Seattle Times Company and Borden Chemical, Inc. He has also held human resources management positions at Dow Chemical Company and Dupont Dow Elastomers, LLC.
Mike has Master’s degrees from Michigan State University and Villanova University, a BA from the University of Scranton, and the Senior Professional in Human Resources certification (SPHR).
Nancy Komola, SPHR, Consulting Director/Principal

Nancy is responsible for assisting clients with employee relations issues, organizational and development needs assessments, training programs, compensation, leadership development, and communication.  She also oversees all of HRnovations’ other human resources consultants.  Nancy has over eighteen years of experience as an HR practitioner, business partner, and trainer. Prior to joining HRnovations in 2004,

Nancy spent seventeen years in the industrial manufacturing industry, most recently as western regional HR manager for Borden Chemical, Inc.

Nancy attended City University while working toward a BS in Business Administration and has earned the Senior Professional in Human Resources certification (SPHR).

Amy Efroymson, SPHR, Business Development Director/Principal

Amy is primarily responsible for all marketing and business development activities for HRnovations.  In addition, Amy supports HRnovations’ clients with organizational assessments, employee relations, executive coaching, training development, and employee communications programs. 

Her work experience includes over fifteen years in human resources services as a practitioner and consultant, with specific experience in health care, biotech, apparel, distribution, and manufacturing industries.  Prior to joining HRnovations, Amy was the human resources manager for Children’s Hospital and Regional Medical Center in Seattle and the regional director of human resources for Cardinal Health.


Amy has a BA from Whitman College and earned the Senior Professional in Human Resources certification (SPHR).
Jan Harding, SPHR, Founder

Jan founded HRnovations in 1989. With the growth of PEOs in the early ’90s, Jan began to market HR-related responsibilities in a single package that could be provided by one vendor.  In 1993, the company became the first PEO in the Puget Sound area.

Jan’s expertise covers all strategic aspects of human resources, such as organizational assessments, employee development and involvement programs, and innovative recognition and reward systems that link pay and performance with business needs. Prior to founding HRnovations, Jan was vice president of human resources at McCaw Cellular Communications, Inc. and director of human resources for Washington Public Power Supply System.

Jan has a BA in business and communication from Eastern Washington University and earned the Senior Professional in Human Resources certification (SPHR).


Michele King, CFO/PEO Operations Director

In addition to managing the finances of the company, Michele manages the payroll and benefits administration for PEO services. Her primary focus is ensuring that the PEO practice has the people, process, and technology capabilities to serve current clients well and enable capacity for growth. Prior to joining HRnovations,

Michele was a financial consultant with CFO Selections, vice president with Trammell Crow Property Management, director of finance with MulvannyG2 Architecture, and CFO with Greenwood Heating & Air Conditioning.
Michele has a BS from Central Washington University and is an active CPA in the state of Washington.
